LG Washer dE, dE1 or dE2 Error Code: Door Won't Lock Fix

Also shown or searched as: dE1, dE2, E01, E30, dEI

dE on an LG washer means the door did not close or lock. dE1 (also E01) says the door is not fully shut; dE2 (also E30) says it is shut but not locking. Pull laundry away from the gasket, press the door closed until it clicks, then unplug the washer and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds before restarting.

What to try first

  1. 1

    Clear the door opening

Push every item back into the drum, away from the glass and the gasket. Run a hand around the gasket fold to find anything caught, and take a few pieces out if the drum is packed.

  2. 2

    Close the door firmly

Open the door, then press the center of the door handle until you hear it click. Restart the cycle and see whether the code is gone.

  3. 3

    Reset with the Start/Pause button

Turn the washer off and unplug it, or switch off its breaker. With the power off, press and hold Start/Pause for 5 seconds. Restore power and try the cycle again.

  4. 4

On a top loader, close the lid and press Start/Pause

Shut the lid fully and remove anything in its way. If dE stays on the display, press Start/Pause, then press it once more to start the cycle.

Most likely causes of dE

  1. 1. Laundry caught between the door and the rubber gasket (most common)

A sleeve or sock edge sits in the fold of the gasket, or the door springs back a little after you close it.

  2. 2. Too much laundry for the door to close (common)

Clothes press against the inside of the glass when the door is shut.

  3. 3. The door was not pushed fully closed (common)

You closed it gently and never heard it click into place.

  4. 4. A deformed door gasket (less common)

The rubber seal has a fold, a tear or a bulge that keeps the door from sitting flat.

  5. 5. A bent or broken latch, or another damaged door part (less common)

The hook on the door looks bent or loose, or dE2 returns with nothing in the way.

When to call a pro

  • dE1 or dE2 continues after the door check and the reset. LG says service will then be required.
  • The latch hook on the door is bent, loose or broken.
  • The gasket is torn or misshapen and the door will not sit flat.
  • A top loader shows dE with the lid shut and nothing blocking it. LG says that needs a detailed inspection.
  • The door stays locked long after the cycle has ended and the water has drained and cooled.

What a dE repair costs

$100–$300

HomeGuide's 2026 national range for a new washer door lock or lid switch, parts and labor; the latch part alone is $20 to $130. Clearing the gasket or doing the reset costs nothing, and HomeGuide's minimum service fee is $70 to $130.

dE1 and dE2 are two different door problems

LG splits its front-load door error in two. dE1, shown as E01 on some models, means the door is open or not fully closed, and laundry caught in the gasket is the cause LG names first. dE2, or E30, means the door is closed but the lock did not engage. For dE2, LG adds an overloaded drum and a bent or broken latch to the list.

That difference tells you where to look. Most of the dE1 causes LG lists are about what sits in the doorway or how the door was shut. A dE2 that survives the reset points at the latch or the lock, which is where a technician starts.

dE on an LG top loader means the lid

On LG's top-load error list, dE simply means the lid is open. LG lists a separate code, dL, for a door lock error, when the lid's locking mechanism is not working. LG says something trapped in the lock, which sits on the right side of the lid, can cause dL, and so can running the washer in a humid room such as a bathroom. It also warns that warranty repairs may be billed when the setting, rather than a defect, caused the damage.

What a technician will check

  • The door lock assembly on the cabinet, including the switch that reports whether the door is locked.
  • The door hinge and latch hook, for wear or a bend that stops the hook from catching.
  • The wiring between the door lock and the washer's controls.
  • The gasket and its clamps, for a fold that keeps the door from closing.

Questions people ask about LG dE

Why won't my LG washer door open after I pause it?

LG calls that a normal safety feature. After you press Start/Pause, the door can stay locked while the water is above the bottom of the door, or while the drum is about 122 to 140°F or hotter. Wait for it to drain or cool, and you will hear a click when it unlocks.

Is dEI a different error from dE1?

No. On LG's display the number 1 is a single upright bar that looks like a capital I, so dE1 is easy to read as dEI. It is the same door-not-closed code.

How much does it cost to fix an LG dE error?

Usually nothing, because the cause is laundry in the doorway or a door that was not pushed shut. If the lock or latch has failed, HomeGuide puts a door lock replacement at $100 to $300 including labor.
