Electrolux Washer E11 Code: Long Fill Time and How to Fix It
Also shown or searched as: 11
E11 on an Electrolux front load washer means a long fill time: water is not filling the drum during the wash phase. The washer may lock for up to 6 minutes. Check that both faucets are fully open, the hot and cold hoses are not swapped, and the inlet screens are clean before you book service.
What to try first
Safety: Turn both faucets off before you unscrew the inlet hoses, and keep a towel and a bucket ready for the water left in them.
- 1
Wait out the lock without unplugging
E11 can lock the washer for up to 6 minutes. Electrolux says unplugging it restarts that 6-minute count, so leave it powered and use the time to check the water supply.
- 2
Open both faucets all the way
Turn the hot and cold faucets fully open. Electrolux's water supply guide says water should start entering within 2 minutes of pressing Start, and that supply pressure must be 30 to 120 psi, with no more than 10 psi between hot and cold. Your water department can tell you your pressure.
- 3
Match hot to hot and cold to cold
Trace each hose from its faucet to the washer. Each inlet is marked hot or cold with a label or a molded marking. On 400 to 700 Series models the cold inlet is on the left; on 300 Series models it is on the right.
- 4
Test the faucets and rinse the inlet screens
Turn both faucets off, lay down a towel and unscrew the hoses from the back of the washer. Point each hose into a bucket and open its faucet briefly to check the flow. Rinse grit off the screens in the inlet ports, then reconnect each hose hand-tight plus about two-thirds of a turn with pliers, with a rubber washer in every fitting.
- 5
Straighten or replace the hoses
Remove sharp bends behind the washer. Electrolux says to swap flood-safe hoses for standard washer hoses, to replace any hose with bulges, cuts or corrosion, and to fit new hoses every 5 years.
- 6
Loosen a tight drain hose
Make sure the hooked end of the drain hose rests loosely in the standpipe with room for air around it. Remove any tape that seals it in, and secure it with a cable tie instead.
Most likely causes of E11
1. Hot and cold supply hoses connected to the wrong inlets (most common)
The washer is new or was moved recently. Electrolux calls reversed hoses a known installation issue behind E11.
2. A faucet that is partly closed, or low house water pressure (most common)
Other taps in the house run weak, or someone was showering or running a dishwasher while the washer tried to fill. Electrolux asks you to avoid using water elsewhere during the fill.
3. Kinked inlet hoses or plugged inlet screens (common)
A hose folds where the washer was pushed back, or grit sits in the small screens at the inlet ports. Electrolux's hookup steps flush the supply lines first for this reason.
4. Water siphoning out through the drain hose as it comes in (common)
You can see water entering, yet the level in the drum stays low. The standpipe is short, or the drain hose is jammed or taped tightly into it.
5. A failed inlet valve, pressure switch or pressure hose (less common)
Supply, hoses, screens and drain hose all pass, and E11 still returns on the next load.
When to call a pro
- The washer was installed or moved within the last 30 days. Electrolux says the installer should correct hookup faults like swapped hoses.
- E11 keeps returning after the faucets, hoses, screens and drain hose all check out. For washers installed more than 30 days ago, Electrolux says to schedule service.
- Water reaches the inlets at good pressure, but the drum stays empty or barely wet.
- Water drips from the inlet fittings or collects under the washer.
- House pressure tests below 30 psi, which calls for a plumber or the water utility rather than a washer repair.
What a E11 repair costs
$100–$300
Water inlet valve replacement, parts and labor, from HomeGuide's 2026 national cost table. A pressure switch runs $100 to $250. Opening a faucet or swapping a hose costs nothing; minimum service fees run $70 to $130.
SourceWhat E11 means on an Electrolux washer
Electrolux defines E11 as a long fill time: the washer is not filling with water during the washing phase of the cycle. Some displays drop the letter and show just 11; Electrolux lists that under the same article.
In Electrolux's service guide for technicians, each fill step has its own time limit, and the clock restarts every time the water reaches the next level. So E11 means one level was not reached in time. Some water may still have come in, so a slow trickle can trigger it as well as a closed faucet.
Why Electrolux checks the installation first
Both the E11 article and the water supply guide treat swapped hot and cold hoses as a known installation problem. Newer models even carry a separate HO SE alert just for reversed hoses.
Electrolux also draws a line at 30 days. If the washer was installed or moved inside that window, the installer is expected to come back and correct the hookup. After that, Electrolux handles it as a service call.
When water flows in but the drum never fills
Electrolux's manual has a separate line for this, and the cause it gives is on the drain side. A standpipe lower than about 24 inches, or a drain hose fitted snugly inside it, can siphon water out as fast as the valve lets it in. The washer keeps filling, never reaches its level and times out with E11.
What a technician will check
- Each inlet valve solenoid, which Electrolux's service guide tests for resistance with the wiring unplugged.
- The pressure switch and its small air hose, checked for leaks or blockages that hide the true water level.
- Leaks in the internal water circuit between the inlet valve and the tub.
- Whether the drain hose height and fit create a siphon, which the service guide rules out before replacing parts.
- The wiring from the valve to the control board, and the board itself, once the valve tests good.

Questions people ask about Electrolux E11
Is code 11 the same as E11 on an Electrolux washer?
Yes. Electrolux's E11 support article lists a washer that displays code 11 under the same long fill time issue, and the checks are identical.
My Electrolux shows HO SE. Is that the same as E11?
No. HO SE is a separate alert on newer models that means the hoses are reversed. The display shows HO, then SE, then 0 min. Press Cancel, shut off both water valves and move each hose to the correct inlet.
My Electrolux shows AL 10 instead of E11. What does that mean?
Some Electrolux models flash alarms as AL followed by a two-character code. Their use and care guide lists AL 10 as the washer not filling with water properly, and the first checks are the same: a fully open faucet and enough water pressure.
